Tia Meer

When the family moved to Virginia Beach, VA, Tia continued learning about and working with plants. She also developed an interest in other activities, including surfing, camping, and playing music. After graduating high school in Virginia Beach, Tia moved to Orlando, FL, and attended University of Central Florida studying botany, health, and environmental science to earn a Bachelor's of Science in Liberal Studies.
After graduation from UCF in 2000, Tia volunteered with the Florida Trail Association in Tallahassee, FL and joined the AmeriCorps Florida State Parks program based in Wekiva Springs State Park. She then traveled to Hawaii and Costa Rica, where she WWOOFed and visited several permaculture farms and worked on a farm to school program with the nonprofit Kokua Hawaii Foundation.

Tia has served as the organization's President since its inception and was instrumental in bringing together the founders and vision of Simple Living Institute, Inc. Tia is currently living in Orlando, FL, where she and her husband, Terry, have built an environmentally friendly house. She is a certified arborist, has her own business Homegrown Delights, LLC, and is working with the University of Central Florida and Get Active Orlando as their community garden coordinator. Tia is also working on writing a book about simple living.
