Tia Meer
Tia Meer (née Silvasy) was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and spent the early years of her life helping her grandmother on her 13-acre organic farm and greenhouse nursery. When the family moved to Virginia Beach, VA, Tia continued learning about and working with plants. She also developed an interest in other activities, including surfing, camping, and playing music. After graduating high school in Virginia Beach, Tia moved to Orlando, FL, and attended University of Central Florida studying botany, health, and environmental science to earn a Bachelor's of Science in Liberal Studies. Tia also continued to be very involved in music, playing guitar and singing in a band, 5day4cast, who played out locally and also at the Woodstock Anniversary show in New York.
After graduation from UCF in 2000, Tia spent another summer on her grandmother's farm in Pennsylvania, then volunteered with the Florida Trail Association in Tallahassee, FL, and finally joined the AmeriCorps Florida State Parks program based in Wekiva Springs State Park. She then traveled for several months to Hawaii and Costa Rica, where she visited several permaculture farms.
Tia has served as the organization's President since its inception and was instrumental in bringing together the founders and vision of Simple Living Institute, Inc. Tia is currently living in Orlando, FL, and is working on building a environmentally friendly house and a self-sufficient biointensive mini-farm with her husband, Terry.
