Please contact us if you have any questions regarding appropriate attire. •Hydrology - Mark Mulligan will lead this lesson in hydrology by showing maps of the Econlockhatchee River and showing and explaining some of the river's special characteristics. We will take a river walk tour where children will learn to recognize the change of habitat from uplands to wetlands. We will split into two groups to further explore the features of the river. One group will go out for a mudwalk and swim and the other will look at clams, snails, flowers and wetland creatures from dry land. •Gardening - Tia Meer will lead the gardening session where children will learn what plants need to survive and get their hands dirty learning gardening techniques. The children will rotate through two activities including planting seeds in the garden and planting in containers to take home. •Scavenger Hunt - We will have a scavenger hunt list and hand it out to the children. They may work individually, with their parents, or other children to find the items on the list. •Celebration - The kids' festival will conclude with a celebration and a summary of all the lessons learned. About the Kids' Festival
Most adults who have a love for nature were exposed to the joys of nature as children. The goal of the kids' festival is to take Orlando children "back to nature" by giving them a chance to romp around the natural and pristine The Econ Farm. A far cry from concrete and chlorine, we've found that even the "prissiest" of little girls can warm up to the idea of being covered in mud. While it's not yet an annual event, we would like to see our Kids Festival expand and occur every summer. Please contact us to get involved as a volunteer, planner or facilitator of this event! Past Kids' Festivals2003: Econ Farm |
